HELENSBURGH

Coming off the F6 Freeway at the Helensburgh exit is the start of the Northern Illawarra.
Historic Helensburgh is a former coal mining town first established in 1884. To get there, head to the big roundabout with the Helensburgh Golf Driving Range on your right (ph 4294 3456) a good place for you to polish up on your drives, then take the next right into Parkes Street.
Helensburgh has a number of historical buildings including the Centennial Hotel (ph 4294 1005) located on the roundabout in the centre of the village.
It was built in 1915 by the Hanley family, publicans who settled in the area, and today has accommodation, a bistro, bottle shop and beer garden.
In Parkes Street stands the original police station which is still in use. The building dates back to 1895.
Helensburgh also has many other services to offer.

Back at the big roundabout near the Golf Driving Range, head south towards Darkes Forest and visit the Darkes Forest Riding Ranch (ph 4294 3441), where you can join a trail ride or have a riding lesson. You can also meet the famous Quart Pot, the mule who appeared in Australia the movie.
