ROYAL NATIONAL PARK & OTFORD

The Royal National Park covers 16,000 hectares of spectacular scenery, which is a riot of colour in summer with more than 700 species of flowering plants.
Many parts of the park, including Audley, Wattamolla, Marley and Garie Beach, are easy to reach by car from the Northern Illawarra and popular for day trips.
But the best way to see Australia's oldest national park is to explore on foot via the more than 150km of walking tracks.
One of the walks most easily accessible is the spectacular walk that tracks the coast for 23km south to Otford from Bundeena in the north.
The Coast Track (ph 1300 317 200) runs guided walking trips from a short half day to a three-day trek.
The longer walks include comfortable tent accommodation, gourmet food and wine, and an experienced guide. Experience the Australian bush at its best and swim at secluded beaches.
Once you have finished your walk you may want to indulge yourself at Otford Valley Sanctuary Day Spa (4294 4748). They offer facials, massages, waxing and packages in a beautiful, relaxed environment.
While in Otford you can also explore the beautiful countryside of the Northern Illawarra on horseback taking in rainforests and waterfalls with Otford Farm Trail Rides at Lloyd Place (ph 1800 642 749) who cater for all levels of riders. There also also farm animals for the children to play with.
At the top of Domville Road at Lady Wakehurst Drive visit the Otford Pantry for delicious homemade apple pies (ph 4294 1243). Also available are breakfasts and healthy snacks. The Pantry is open weekends and public holidays and is a great way to start or finish your perfect day.
Another great track is the walk to Kelly's Falls. Follow the signs to Helensburgh and on the right the easy 1km walk begins from a spot opposite the junction of Stonehaven Road and Lawrence Hargrave Drive. After reaching the falls you can continue to a viewing platform.
